Furniture returns: what to expect

Buying clearance furniture online is different from returning a shirt. Cartons are heavy, freight is one-way by default, and stock can move before a seller can ship. This guide sets honest expectations — for our storefront and for online furniture buys in general — with links to primary sources.

1. Fulfillment first: refund if we cannot ship

Clearance inventory is not endless warehouse stock. A piece can sell out between your payment and our ability to place the supplier order. Our rule is simple: if we cannot fulfill, you get a full refund. No store-credit-only outcome. That matches how we curate: we would rather pause buy than take money we cannot complete. See how we curate and our returns policy.

Federally, sellers who take mail, internet, or telephone orders are covered by the FTC’s Mail, Internet, or Telephone Order Merchandise Rule. In short, sellers need a reasonable basis to ship in the time they advertise (or within 30 days if no time is stated), and must offer a delay option or cancel and refund when they cannot. The FTC’s business guide to the Rule and consumer-facing online shopping advice are useful reads before any large online furniture order.

2. Damage on arrival: act within days

Freight for bedroom pieces often ends at the threshold or first dry area — curb, porch, garage, or lobby — not inside the bedroom. Bring cartons inside the same day. Inspect before you discard packaging.

We work the claim. If the piece cannot be replaced, we refund. Timing matters because carriers and suppliers need evidence close to delivery. More on drop-off reality in our freight delivery guide.

3. Preference returns: expensive and case-by-case

“Changed my mind” returns on a recliner or bed are not like parcel apparel. Return freight can cost hundreds, and some channels will not accept preference returns at all. At Last Call Furnishings, preference returns are case-by-case and may include restocking plus return shipping. Ask us before you ship anything back. Do not abandon a piece curbside and assume a refund.

Measure wall clearance, doorway path, and outlet reach before you buy. For the live recliner, see the Power Recliner product page, the power recliner buying guide, and power vs manual.

4. After delivery: place it safely

Returns are rarer when fit and safety are planned up front. Once the piece is inside:

Our bedroom furniture safety checklist covers tip-over, cords, and placement after freight.

5. What “honest proof” looks like on our site

We show a live price (for example, the recliner at $699), LLC seller identity, freight timing in weeks, and a clear full-refund-if-we-cannot-fulfill promise. We do not invent compare-at “was” prices from a supplier sticker. Availability can change; when buy is paused, the product page says so.
